Our work in this field has spanned a wide range of industries from all around the world, giving us a wealth of experience from which to draw.

As well as carrying out investigations on behalf of our clients, we are also able to offer an expert witness service. Derek Bates has been acting as an expert witness for 25 years and is Law Society Checked, Justin Bates has been an expert witness for over 12 years and Nick Kenworthy has been an expert witness for over 5 years. Our areas of expertise include:

  • Products, machinery and materials failure/defect analysis
  • Forensic investigation into failure of mechanical equipment, metals, plastics, structures, buildings, pressure vessels, furnaces, etc.
  • Corrosion of process equipment, offshore structures, ships, transport and petrochemicals

We can act as single or joint expert witnesses. As a single expert witness we are employed by one of the parties involved in the dispute. However our primary repsonsibilities remains with the court and the law. As single joint experts we are employed by both parties to provide joint evidence and expert opinion. We can also act as experts prior to any legal proceedings in an effort to resolve disputes through arbitration proceedings. We will provide you with an honest expert opinion that you can trust.

Compressor Failure in Nigeria

We were asked to analyse causes of corrosion on a new compressor. Our analysis revealed a corrosion mechanism substantially different from the data given to the owners.


Collapse of PP lined GRP Tank

We established for our client that the failure was caused by overheating of the tank in service and not a manufacturing fault as had been claimed.
